Comments from Dick ten Bosch: John Gerrard K., born as Johannes Gerardus K. in the Netherlands, worked as a young man together with Schlegel in the Nat. Hist. Museum in Leyden, where he must have seen some falconry illustrations for the first time. He became the most popular bird illustrator of his time in the UK. Fortunately for the Dutch he also illustrated "Onze vogels in huis en tuin", 3 tomes, 200 wonderful plates in color, 120 of which local song birds, v. rare....
