Description: NETSUKE: THREE SO-CALLED OTSU-E-FIGURES.
Japan. Edo period. 1st half of the 19th century. Ivory, very delicately carved and engraved and slightly stained. The delicately carved and skillfully composed group consisting of the standing falconer with his falcon on the left arm and sheath in the right hand, held also by Fujihime in rich garb with large hat and wisteria twig over her shoulder, sitting on the back of Oni Nembutsu crawling on his belly between them with the receipt book in the left hand, as well as gong and drumstick. Natural Himotoshi. W.3.7cm. Signed: Shounsai, cf. MCI p. 259-264, Tôkyô school, known for his harmoniously composed, delicate three figures. Condition A.
