The eagle falconers (Berkutchi) of Central Asia have always hunted from horseback and so their eagle hoods, known as "Tomaga" evolved with a closed back and without the braces. This is for easy removal whilst riding and using one hand or your teeth on the top tag. The Kazakh patterns are the very best fit for an eagles head and shape around the mouth and nares, and have been adopted with enthusiasm in the west in recent years.
