Falconry Woman Riding Horse Sidesaddle & Greyhound 1860s Antique Print & Article.
ou are bidding on a large, very rare original antique engraving from an 1860s French illustrated journal.
It depicts a beautiful woman falconner (falconress?) riding sidesaddle while releasing the falcon. She is hunting a heron. Her trusty greyhound dog runs along side her. He aid prepares a second bird (still hooded) for flight.
Also included with the print is a second page from the same journal with an 16-inch articleprint. It is in French, but free computer translation programs make it easy to translate.
It is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 10.5 x 14.5 inches (26.5 x 36.5 cm). The picture fills most of the page, with a French caption below.
The page is in excellent condition for its age. There is text/photos on the back of the print. See scan for an accurate view of the condition.
This is GENUINE antique/vintage item. It is not a modern reproduction.
The FHT aims to establish a portal for the world's falconers and other interested parties to access aspects of the sport's rich heritage by linking existing physical archives, including international private and public collections, through the medium of an electronic archive. This archive features falconry furniture, works of art, books, correspondence from leading falconers and film and photographic material for the education and interest of falconer and scholar alike. We hope that, whatever your background or interest in our sport, you may find something of value through our archive to deepen your knowledge, understanding and passion for falconry and will help us, through your support, to preserve this precious cultural heritage for future generations.
